If you don’t think you’re Addicted to Wheat…
If you don’t think you’re Addicted to Wheat… Try going for One Week without eating it. It wasn’t easy giving up Gluten for good. It felt like quitting smoking. At first it feels impossible, like you’re giving up a loved one. Then as months go on, you care less and less. Then eventually it goes away (almost) altogether. I do still have my moments of overwhelming cravings. Like giving my son a bowl of golden grahams the other morning. I wanted some really badly, but like any addiction the craving quickly went away and I didn’t think about it again.
I do treat eating gluten like an addiction … I don’t want to eat even just that one piece of gluten pizza. Not only because it will make sick but because I’m worried that I will backslide down a slippery slope right back into eating wheat again.
The biggest thing that contributed to my giving up wheat for good, was attitude. It was really easy to feel sorry for myself. All I could think everywhere I went was, I can’t have that, I can’t have that, I can’t have that… Once I started looking at it differently, a whole new world started to open up. When I went places I started thinking, I can eat that still or I can easily make that myself. The possibilities are endless, you just have to be willing to open up your eyes to a whole new experience.
