Are Ham and Cheese Cracker Sliders Gluten Free? – Yes! This Ham and Cheese Cracker Slider recipe is gluten free. Although typically Ham and Cheese Cracker Sliders are made with ritz crackers which are made with wheat flour.
Which Pan Should I Use For for This Recipe? – I like to bake this recipe in an 9 x 13 lasagna pan. You can also use a flat baking pan or cookie sheet.
Can I use different meat and cheese? – Many deli meats will be delicious in place of the ham. Roast beef, turkey, or even salami would be a great choice. For the cheese, try colby jack, cheddar, American, or even pepper jack.
Can I make the party sandwiches ahead of time? – The sandwiches taste best when they are warm, right out of the oven. I recommend baking them right before you plan to serve them. If they sit too long, the crackers may become soggy.
What kind of gluten free crackers did you use? – I used Schar’s version of Ritz crackers. I ended up needed 2 packages to make the recipe. (some of the crackers where broken and I only used the full unbroken crackers).
What is a Slider? – A Slider is a little baked sandwich made using Hawaiian rolls with ham and cheese and melted butter and poppy seeds poured over the top.
What Ingredients Do You Need To Make Ham and Cheese Cracker Sliders?
Here’s what you’ll need: (See recipe card below for full printable recipe)
- Crackers – gluten free ritz style
- Deli Ham – black forest or honey ham
- Swiss Cheese – sliced
- Butter – melted
- Dijon Mustard – regular or honey mustard also work
- Garlic Powder – adds lots of flavour
- Poppy Seeds – are a fun addition
- Dried Minced Onion – must be dried
How Do You Make Ham and Cheese Cracker Sliders?
Here’s how to make them: (See recipe card below for full printable recipe)
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F. Then cover the bottom of a 13×9 inch baking dish with tin foil.
Step 2: Spread 24 of the crackers evenly over the bottom of the pan. Cut the ham slices into 4 and then cut the cheese slice into 6 pieces.
Step 3: Cover each of the crackers with 1 piece of the Swiss cheese and ham. Then place a cracker on top.
Step 4: Melt the butter in the microwave (or stove top), then add the dijon mustard, garlic powder, poppy seeds and minced dried onion to it. Stir until it’s mixed well, then cover the tops of the prepared crackers with it.
Step 5: Bake for 8 – 10 minutes or until golden brown. Transfer to a serving platter and serve while warm.

- Any combination of deli meat and cheese works well for this recipe. Roast beef and cheddar, or turkey and colby jack are a few ideas!

- Watch oven to avoid over-baking and possibly burning while allowing the ingredients to melt together.
- If you’re not on a gluten free diet, you can use regular ritz crackers. That being said, no one could tell that they were gluten free using these Schar’s gluten free version of ritz. They are the perfect replacement.
