WHAT IS THE KETOGENIC DIET?

The ketogenic diet (often called keto) is a very low-carb, high-fat diet that shares similarities to paleo, Whole30, and Atkins. It involves drastically reducing carbohydrate intake, and replacing it with fat. When your body switches to burning fat for its primary fuel source, that’s when you hit ketosis.

While on the Keto diet you’re supposed to get at least 70 percent of your calories from fat, 15 to 25 percent from protein, and 10 percent from carbohydrates. You’re supposed to avoid all grains, legumes, root vegetables, fruit, (except berries) and sugar.

This Rich and Creamy Easy Keto Cheese Sauce is so Simple and Satisfying. I like to Serve it over Steamed Vegetables or use it to make a Deliciously Cheesy Vegetable Casserole. When I make the Veggie Casserole I like to cover it with Cheese and Pork Rind Crumbs. Then I Bake it until the Top is Golden Brown. It’s Definitely one of my Families Favourite Side Dishes and I Love how Quick and Easy it is to Make.

Recipe Notes:

  •  Let simmer longer For a Thicker Sauce. The Sauce will thicken slightly as it cools. To thin the sauce stir in a little water.
  • Any type of hard cheese can be used for this recipe. Try using grated mozzarella cheese for a delicious creamy keto white sauce.
  • Remember that this sauce will start to thicken as it cools, so be sure to serve it warm.
  • You can make this keto cheese sauce recipe ahead of time and store it in a lidded container in the refrigerator. It will keep for 3-5 days in your fridge, if it lasts that long.
  • I don’t recommend freezing keto cheddar cheese sauce. If you won’t be able to eat all of the keto cheddar cheese sauce recipe, simply cut the recipe in half.

Always comes out gritty for me, which kills it. I think its the cream cheese-it never fully melts for me.

Melt it in the microwave for 30 seconds before you put it in there.

Just made this for dinner last night. I wanted a good basic sauce to pour over my steamed broccoli (can’t do just plain broccoli by itself – ick!). I love this recipe. It’s simple and it turned out REALLY well. It’s smooth and creamy. I added ingredients in order as it states, all the while stirring with a metal wire wisk while on a low simmer heat. These steps shouldn’t be rushed – after adding each ingredient stir until mixed well before adding the next ingredient. It’s fool-proof really. For the cheese, I used a mixture of regular sharp cheddar along with white cheddar. I love this recipe because it it so basic but you can personalize it with different types of cheese. I love BelGioioso brand cheeses like their balsamic and merlot flavored varieties. I can’t wait to incorporate these different types of cheeses to create a sauce with a little more bite/tang to it! I think the main secret is keep stirring as you melt and mix these ingredients together. It takes a few minutes but that way you won’t end up with “gritty” (??) sauce…

Can someone please tell me what is one serving of the Keto cheese sauce? I’m confused it says 1 servings is 280 calories what is 1 serving 1/2 cup or what? It was delicious but at 280 calories a serving I need to know what 1 serving is because calories add up
    Thanks!

Can you store the Keto cheese sauce in refrigerator? And if yes how long?
        Thanks.

You can store it in the fridge but only for a couple of days. The sauce does get quite solid but will soften once reheated.

Can you use regular milk if you don’t have heavy cream?

Hi Laurie, Milk won’t work as well. It will make a runnier sauce unless you add some sort of binder with it. Typically flour is used along side the milk to get the desired thickness. If you’re keto you can try adding a little xanthan gum or psyllium husk instead of flour. Hope that helps .

Made this tonight to pour over asparagus. Phenomenal! Only had 1/4 cp of cream so used 1/4 cp of sour cream as well. Used 1/2 sharp cheddar and 1/2 gruyere. Best asparagus ever!

Made it for the family for broccoli. We are low carbers/ no gluten. Everyone loved it. Very smooth and creamy. The instructions were easy to follow. Thanks! I will try something else soon.

Just have started a LOW-CARB way of eating. I love to cook and am what you would consider a foodie. Was skeptical of how this sauce would turn out without the proverbial flour. It was excellent. Even though it hardens up when it cools, you can manage it by keeping it warm, or warming up what is left in the pan as you need it. I did as she said and added a couple of tablespoons of water to thin it out. (My husband and I had dinner and then I rewarmed everything for my son when he got home from work.). I saw where someone put Dijon Mustard in it. Although the flavor of the recipe “as is” was very pleasing … I would love to make it again with some type of kick or other flavor layer. I added just crushed black pepper. Thank you so much! Can’t wait to use it again! (We used it on steamed broccoli and cauliflower — and everyone raved!)
